Christine Hutchinson-Such-n-Sew Studio

Such-n-Sew Studio is a mother and daughter owned business, where our two talents of textiles and ceramic intertwine. The ‘Such’ in Such-n-Sew is Heather, aka the daughter, who makes ceramic pet bowls, ornaments, mugs, cups, bowls, tea pots, magnets, colanders, and planters, all from clay decorated with glaze, crafting life long pieces filled with character and originality. Everything is hand built using tools like an extruder and slab roller. The clay is fired in a kiln, glazed 1-3 times depending on the glaze, and fired once more. Magnets and pins are then glued to the ceramic bodies intended to be magnets or pins. Twine string is creatively wrapped through and around the ceramic ornaments.
The ‘Sew’ to this duo, Christine, aka the mom, sews a variety of sling bags, backpacks, purses, totes, convertible bags, cosmetic bags, phone slings, bowl cozies, water bottle bags, wallets, and composite book covers. Christine likes to use special fabrics like cork, waxed canvas, and washable paper. She specifically hunts for sailcloth, billboard tarps, Tyvek house wrap, and feed sacks to sew into truly one-of-a-kind bags that tell a story. Christine finds sewing patterns and thoughtfully chooses fabric, zippers, thread, lining, then whips up a bag on her industrial sewing machine, one that will last a lifetime not only through quality but through style. In the “studio” we strive to make things that compliment one another like a heatsafe bowl cozie spoons a handmade ceramic bowl. What’s better than subconsciously killing two birds with one stone? For every festival we participate in we aim to make new things that embrace that particular festival’s theme.
