I have been passionately crafting paper mache’ sculptures for several years, specializing initially in the simplified forms of seagulls which I then carefully positioned and photographed amidst their natural coastal habitats – from sandy beaches to bustling boardwalks and piers. Matted prints of these scenes are a part of my line of work.
Expanding upon this theme, my collection has grown to encompass an array of marine life including fish, jellyfish, turtles, and starfish, elegantly showcased within rustic wooden boxes designed for creative display.
What distinguishes my creations is not only their aesthetic appeal but also their eco-conscious construction; each figure is meticulously crafted from recycled grocery bags, imbuing them with a unique narrative of sustainability. Departing from conventional adhesives, I use masking tape as the primary binding agent, ensuring both structural integrity and a distinctive textured finish. I refer to this process “Tape-r Mache””.
The intricate detailing of each sculpture is brought to life through multiple layers of vibrant acrylic paint, meticulously applied to capture the nuances of texture and form.
Finally, a glossy varnish serves to both protect and enhance the overall composition, imbuing each piece with a luminous quality that invites viewers to immerse themselves in the whimsical world I have meticulously crafted.
This cohesive body of work radiates a playful, beach-inspired ambiance, characterized by its vivid color palette and dynamic textures, inviting audiences to embark on a sensory journey through the captivating realms of beach culture and imagination.
