Sara Westermark – Sara Westermark Jewelry

Rooted in Wilmington, North Carolina, I am a self-taught metalsmith and jewelry artist inspired by nature. I create each piece of jewelry by hand in sterling silver, incorporating gemstones, enamel, texture, and color.

My process is slow and hands-on: I cut, form, solder, texture, and finish each piece using traditional metalsmithing tools such as a hand saw, hammers, stakes, torch, rolling mill, punches, dies, files, and engravers. I also make my own steel tools, including punches and dies, to create distinctive textures and marks that give each work its character.

I am drawn to the balance of organic and designed forms and enjoy experimenting with color, texture, and movement. I embrace the subtle variations that come from making each piece by hand rather than producing identical works.

For me, jewelry is both artistic expression and an intimate object meant to be worn and lived with, reflecting the connection between maker, material, and wearer.
