Sara Westermark – Sara Westermark Jewelry

When I moved the metal for the first time

My love of metalsmithing began in 2006 when I first forged a piece of sterling wire with a hammer. I was obsessed with learning as much as I could about making jewelry from that point. I read every book I could get my hand on.

In High School I wanted to learn how to make jewelry, but the only option that I could see was trade school training for a bench jeweler. My father wanted us all to have a formal education, so I studied classical singing. (I know another very practical field).

I had wanted to leave an adjunct teaching position to spend more time with my newborn son, and calculated that I just needed to earn a few hundred dollars a month to be able to stay at home with him. So I took a leap of faith and hit the ground running.
